to join the crowds as a spectator of exciting local
sporting events - from high school to college to semi-professional.
Baseball
Wichita is
home to the Wichita Wingnuts, proud members of the American Association of Professional Baseball. The Wingnuts
play their home games at 6,400-seat Lawrence-Dumont
Stadium in downtown Wichita. Lawrence-Dumont also hosts
the prestigious National Baseball Congress amateur tournament
each August.
Wichita State
University is home to one of the finest college baseball
stadiums in the country, and the Shockers are perennial
powers in the Missouri Valley Conference. With one national
championship under their belt, you can watch the Shockers
make a run for the College World Series each spring.
Basketball
Local universities
provide lots of action on the basketball courts. Wichita
State University is a Division 1-A team competing in
the Missouri Valley Conference. Big 12 action is nearby
at the University of Kansas and Kansas State University
to the north or Oklahoma State University and the University
of Oklahoma to the south.
Football
The Wichita
Wild of the United Indoor Football
League play their home games at the 9,600-seat Kansas
Coliseum in north Wichita. Additionally, local colleges
compete on the gridiron and Big 12 action is just up
the road. Fans of the National Football League will
enjoy a trip north to Arrowhead Stadium, home of the
Kansas City Chiefs.
Hockey
The Wichita
Thunder hockey team competes in the Central Hockey League.
Home ice is the 9,600-seat Kansas Coliseum.
Racing
For the racing
fans, Wichita features the 81 Speedway where you can
catch local or national drag racing.
